Barrhead County council has approved a couple of funding requests from local organizations.
During its regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 7, council approved two requests.
The Neerlandia Historical Society was granted $2,500 under the Community Grants Policy to assist with a windmill restoration project. The total project cost is $11,514.72.
Phase one of the project involved relocating the windmill to Neerlandia, according to the agenda. The society would now like to move to phase two, which includes running electrical wire throughout the windmill to enable the sails to turn on special occasions and introduce lighting for tours and displays.
This approval leaves the 2025 Community Grant Budget at $7,952.50.
Council also approved a request from the Barrhead Attraction and Retention Committee for a donation of $1,060 to support its Barrhead Hospital post-secondary barbecue, meant to showcase the value of living and working in rural Alberta and recruit professionals to the area.
The funding has been allocated from the Council Public Relations Budget.
