Yellowhead County council has approved a design for the Marlboro Hall kitchen project at an estimated cost of $686,200, to be included in the 2026 budget.
The need for a commercial kitchen replacement in Marlboro Hall was identified in the 2025 budget due to a lack compliance with current fire code requirements. The town says an upgrade is needed to ensure the facility can continue functioning in the community.
Working with BR2 Architecture, three design options were developed for the replacement.
- Basic compliance remodel: Maintains the current configuration with little improvements to functionality at a total estimated cost of $576,200.
- Linear kitchen design: Relocates the kitchen to the west wall for a more functional and modern linear layout at a total estimated cost of $677,200.
- U-shaped kitchen design: Relocates the kitchen to the west wall with a u-shaped design, connecting the existing bar directly to the new kitchen at an estimated cost of $686,200.
Council has approved the u-shaped design, which has the highest level of functionality, according to the agenda.
A total of $500,000 has been allocated for the project in the 2025 budget and the additional funds required will be included in the 2026 budget. Tendering for the project is expected to begin in January 2026.
