As a heat wave continues throughout most of Alberta, with meteorologists forecasting temperatures as high as 34 degrees Celsius, temperature records are being set daily.
Yesterday, the Barrhead area hit a high of 31.6 degrees Celsius, above the 1916 record of 29.4 degrees. Records for this area have been kept since 1912.
The Edmonton area got up to 33.3 degrees, replacing the 31.1 degree record set in 1934. The records for Edmonton go back to 1880.
Athabasca reached 31.3 degrees, surpassing the 1958 record of 30 degrees. This area’s weather data dates back to 1900.
The weather office expects the heat to come to an end early next week.
