Lorne’s Blanket Society, located in Whitecourt, is hosting a raffle to support upgrades to its transitional housing units.
The society is a non-profit that offers sober-living transitional housing to men over 18 who are in need of support. Clients generally stay for nine months to a year, though they can stay for longer if they aren’t quite ready for the change.
Carla Mills, co-manager of the organization, said this support ranges from financial and employment support, to sobriety programs and connecting individuals with a family doctor.
The organization is holding a raffle to assist with a few needed upgrades to the space. Mills said this includes a new kitchen table, bed sets, and a functional washer and dryer.
There are 600 raffle tickets available, at $10 each. The draw will take place on Aug. 30, and the following prizes are up for grabs:
- First prize: A helicopter ride, valued at $600.
- Second prize: A barbecue and meat package, worth $440.
- Third prize: A gift basket, paired with an oil change, valued at $250.
Tickets can be purchased until August 29 from Mountain Pizza and Steakhouse, the Whitecourt Appliance Warehouse, Eagle River Chrysler Ltd., at the Whitecourt and Area Farmers’ Market every Tuesday, or by contacting Lorne’s Blanket Society.
