If you’re an Elvis fan and you live near Westlock, you’re in for a treat this weekend.
July 25-27 marks the return of the Blue Suede Music Festival, an annual showcase of top talent Elvis tribute artists from around Canada and even the U.S.
“They’re all award-winning tribute artists. They don’t do this for fun, or as a mockery. This is serious for them and some of them do it as a living,” commented Trudy Traphorn, founder of the event.
Traphorn started it all in 2009 on her acreage in Busby, before the event grew big enough to move to the Busby ball diamonds. Due to growing popularity, it’s been held at the Westlock and District Agricultural Society for the last four years.
Since day one, the event has also been a fundraiser to benefit local food banks. As such, a food bank donation, be it cash or non-perishable food items, is required in addition to a ticket purchase. All food bank donations will go on to benefit the Westlock and Morinville food banks.
Traphorn said organizers have tried to keep ticket prices low to accommodate the ask. Tickets are available online in advance, or at the gates.
