Starting at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, the Fire Restriction in the County of Grande Prairie will be downgraded to a Fire Advisory. This includes the towns of Sexsmith, Beaverlodge, and Wembley.
The County Regional Fire Service’s Fire Chief Trevor Grant says thanks to the recent precipitation and cooler temperatures that overall wildfire risk has been reduced.
“Conditions can still be dry in some areas, and wildfires can easily start under the right circumstances, so we’re asking residents to use caution with any outdoor burning.” – Fire Chief Trevor Grant
While the Fire Advisory is in effect, fire permits may still be restricted. Burning is not allowed when winds reach/forecast at 12 km/h or greater.
The County suggests any burn piles from the winter are to be regularly checked on to make sure they are fully extinguished.
