Multiple arrests were made following a Roving Traffic Unit (RTU) operation carried out by Alberta RCMP in early May, including one Alberta Beach resident.
On May 6, RTU North team members pulled over a vehicle to verify the driver’s license status and vehicle registration. While speaking with the driver, officers say they noticed unstamped tobacco the suspect was allegedly trying to hide.
The vehicle was searched and police reportedly seized 90,000 cigarettes, a value of approximately $44,000.
As a result, a 53-year-old woman from Alberta Beach was charged with:
- Possession of unstamped tobacco
- Possession of unstamped tobacco for the purpose of trafficking
- Fraud over $5000
She was released on conditions and is set to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion on July 7.
