A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a man charged with second-degree murder following a shooting at the Whitecourt Airport last year.
Matthew Charles Jackson, 43, of Whitecourt, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing from Dec. 1-4. 2025, in Whitecourt Court of Justice to see if his case has enough evidence to go to trial.
RCMP say it was just before 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, 2024, when they received a report of a shooting near the Whitecourt Airport and that the suspect was currently driving on Highway 43. After stopping the vehicle, police say they arrested and charged a suspect and located a firearm.
Mounties and EMS say when they arrived at the airport they located the deceased victim who was identified as 44-year-old Whitecourt resident David Beauchesne. The Alberta Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
Jackson was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody.
