With warm, dry and windy weather in the forecast, officials with albertafirebans.ca have issued a Fire Restriction for the entire Central Forest Area, including the Town of Whitecourt, the Town of Edson, Fox Creek, Blue Ridge, Woodlands County and Yellowhead County.
Officials say under this restriction, all existing burn permits have been cancelled and new permits will not be issued moving forward.
While burning is still permitted in approved appliances, backyard fire pits and campfires, residents are urged to exercise extreme caution while burning.
Officials say this restriction will remain in place until conditions improve or further escalation is required.
