Drayton Valley RCMP, along with the Red Deer City RCMP and RCMP Emergency Response Team, arrested two individuals over the Easter long weekend.
On Saturday, April 19, Drayton Valley RCMP say they received reports of a home invasion with a firearm in Drayton Valley that required the victim to be transported to the Drayton Valley Hospital.
While gathering information on this incident, Mounties say they received a secondary report that a male victim had been stabbed multiple times at a rural property in Brazeau County.
Following a thorough investigation, police say they were able to determine that these two events were connected and perpetrated by the same suspects.
As a result of that investigation, Drayton Valley RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in Tomakawk while the Red Deer City RCMP executed a second search warrant on a property in Red Deer.
Robert Blackwell, a 34-year-old resident of Red Deer and Brittney Goulden, a 34-year-old resident of Tomahawk, were arrested by the RCMP Emergency Response Team at the property in Red Deer without incident.
Police say they are familiar with both suspects and believe these events were targeted, with no ongoing risk to the public.
Blackwell has been charged with:
- Robbery with a firearm;
- Breaking and entering;
- Forcible confinement while using a firearm;
- Three counts of assault causing bodily harm;
- Three counts of assault with a weapon;
- Three counts of firearm-related offences;
- Eight counts of weapon-related offences;
- Five counts of failure to comply with court orders.
Goulden has been charged with:
- Robbery with a firearm;
- Breaking and entering;
- Forcible confinement while using a firearm;
- Two counts of assault causing bodily harm;
- Two counts of assault with a weapon;
- Aggravated assault.
Both suspects were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. Both are scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Breton on Wednesday, April 23.
