A Fire Advisory was put into effect for the Whitecourt Forest Area, which includes the Town of Whitecourt, the Town of Fox Creek and Woodlands County, on Tuesday, April 15.
Under this advisory, officials say existing fire permits remain valid, but new permits will only be granted on a case-by-case basis moving forward. They also note that fireworks and exploding targets are now prohibited.
While backyard fire pits and campfires are still allowed under this advisory, officials are reminding residents to exercise extreme caution while burning and to never leave a fire unattended.
Landowners who have done burning over the winter are being asked to revisit the burn locations to ensure those fires are fully extinguished.
Officials say this advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve or further escalation is required.
