Time is running out for Whitecourt and area residents to submit their nominations for Volunteer Week, taking place between April 28 and May 2, 2025.
Fay Arcand, FCSS Program Coordinator for the Town of Whitecourt, says this annual event provides an opportunity to recognize the exceptional volunteer work of individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations.
“We’re really excited about this year and I’m hoping we get more nominees. I know there are amazing volunteers out there,” says Arcand. “These are great ways to recognize outstanding volunteers. We know that they built our community and for years, they have been the foundation of our community so we look forward to celebrating them.”
Nominations are being accepted in the following categories:
- Community Leader – This award is presented to volunteers of any age who have taken a lead role in developing solutions to social challenges in Whitecourt.
- Longstanding Achievement – This award recognizes volunteers who have been serving the community for at least 25 years and have inspired others to volunteer as well.
- Corporate Leader – This award is presented to companies that demonstrate a social responsibility in their practices, including promoting and facilitating volunteerism locally, regionally and nationally.
- The Extra Miler – This award recognizes volunteers who have consistently gone the extra mile to support their cause.
- Outstanding Youth – This award is presented to youths between the ages of 13 and 20 who have demonstrated leadership and the ability to help build a stronger community.
Once the nomination deadline closes, Acrand says nominees will be invited to a luncheon where the winner will be announced.
“After that, we will be contacting all the nominees to invite them to our volunteer celebration lunch that’s going to be held on April 28. With capacity limits, we were able to invite 200 volunteers to our lunch.”
