Whitecourt and area residents are invited to attend information sessions at the Eagle River Casino and the Blue Ridge Community Hall between Tuesday, Feb. 25, and Thursday, Feb. 27.
Organizers say these information sessions provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about clean, reliable power generation, including the potential use of nuclear energy such as Small Modular Reactors (SMR).
Organizers say an SMR control room will be set up to show residents how the units operate and knowledgeable representatives will be on hand to answer any questions that may arise.
While there is no guarantee that projects like this will be coming to the area, officials say public interest is a key factor when deciding whether or not to enter into further discussions.
The information session is scheduled to take place at the Eagle River Casino on the following days:
- Tuesday, Feb. 25, from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 8:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 8:00 p.m.
The information session will then take place at the Blue Ridge Community Centre on the following date:
- Thursday, Feb. 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
