The Kiwetinohk Energy group has sold a proposed, $21 million, 101-MW (megawatt) Opal natural gas-fired power project to Bitdeer Technologies Group.
The Kiwetinohk Energy Group is an Alberta-based producer of natural gas, natural gas liquids, oil and condensate; and is a developer of renewable and natural gas power projects and early-stage carbon capture and storage opportunities
Based out of Singapore, Bitdeer Technologies Group is a technology company for blockchain and computing with data centers in the United States, Norway and Bhutan. They specialize in equipment procurement, equipment management, transport logistics, data centre design and construction and daily operations.
Officials say the proposed facility near the Town of Fox Creek is fully licensed and permitted and is going through stage five of the Alberta Electric System Operator review process.
Fareen Sunderji, President of the Power Division for Kiwetinohk, says their power strategy is designed to keep up with demands for scalable energy.
“This transaction marks a successful outcome for our project and shareholders, demonstrating our ability to develop high-quality power assets,” explains Sunderji. “As demand for reliable and scalable energy continues to grow, our power strategy is well-positioned to support these needs.”
Officials say Bitdeer will acquire all Opal assets, material contracts, leases and permits relating to the project, while officials with Kiwetinohk say proceeds of the sale will be used to reduce debt.
