Woodlands County council will once again be applying for grant funding to assist with efforts to modernize and upgrade the Woodlands County Airport (CYZU).
Administration says they will submit another application to fund the Runway 11-29 Rehabilitation Project, through the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program, under the Community Airport program.
In 2023, the airport was assessed and found to be in poor condition. Recommendations were made to resurface the runway and upgrade the lighting at CYZU. Officials say these upgrades are necessary for the continued operation of the airport which plays a crucial role in the safety of Albertans by providing access to patient transfers for AHS, STARS, Alberta Wildfire and the RCMP.
Council has also directed administration to confirm an opportunity to meet with Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, at the 2025 Rural Municipalities of Alberta Convention to make sure the provincial government understands the importance of this funding.
