Whitecourt town council has taken another step forward as a leader in the Provincial FireSmart program.
On Nov, 26, council posted a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the construction of a 4.5km long, 100m wide fireguard and received six responses. Proposals were scored out of 100 possible points based on factors such as cost of service and the demonstrated ability to complete or exceed work requirements.
Out of the six proposals received, the Martushev Group was selected for their bid of $856,677.29 +GST which was the lowest and received a score of 84 which was the highest.
While the Martushev Group has not worked in Whitecourt before, Director of Community Safety Lee Hardman, believes their experience with projects comparable to the Community Fireguard make them the ideal candidate for this contract.
“They have similar experience in other communities and other projects such as pipelines and utility right-of-ways right in line with this project that we’re doing,” says Hardman.
Martushev Group will be working with Silvacom LTD. who were awarded the project manager contract in December.
