A Whitecourt resident is facing second-degree murder charges following a shooting on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Police say just before 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, they received a report of a shooting near the Whitecourt Airpot and that the suspect was currently driving on Highway 43. After stopping the vehicle, police say they arrested a suspect and located a firearm.
Officials say 43-year-old Whitecourt resident Matthew Charles Jackson is charged with second-degree murder.
Mounties and EMS say when they arrived at the airport they located the deceased victim who has been identified as 44-year-old Whitecourt resident David Beauchesne. The Alberta Major Crimes Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.
Jackson has been taken before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody with his next court date set for Dec. 10, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt.
