Christmas is for Kids will be returning to Whitecourt on Nov. 30, thanks to the hard work of the Whitecourt Chamber of Commerce.
Gayle Mombourquette, Christmas Committee Chair with the Whitecourt Chamber of Commerce, says Christmas is for Kids is a community event that showcases the businesses in Whitecourt’s vibrant downtown core, featuring plenty of family-friendly events and activities.
“This is all about the kids, it’s a family day but it’s all targeted at the kids.”
Organizers say everything will take place between 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m., with plenty of activities already lined up, including a free movie viewing, wagon rides and a fire pit, as well as free refreshments, face painting and sparkle tattoos.
“Elf will be airing at our local theatre and it’s free for everybody,” says Mombourquette. “We have booked a horse-drawn wagon which will be giving free rides around downtown and there will be a fire pit and fire at the legion parking lot.”
Santa Clause himself will not be able to attend, but organizers have found an alternative guest.
“Santa will not be there, unfortunately, he’s busy,” Mombourquette explains. “But The Grinch has volunteered to come in his place. We said he could do that as long as he was nice and handed out free candy.”
Mombourquette says the Chamber is excited to bring this event back to the community, having overcome some early challenges.
“We used to have this event years ago and we’ve just revived it. It’s a free afternoon in the heart of Whitecourt,” says Gayle. “I was a bit concerned because of the tight economy whether we could pull it off again. Once we got everything out, the community has stepped up and are very glad to see the event back again.”
Mombourquette and the rest of the Chamber are inviting Whitecourt residents to the downtown core for an afternoon of festive fun.
“Come on down and get yourself in the mood for Christmas on behalf of the local businesses.”
