Due to a lack of nursing staff and an inability to secure temporary coverage, the emergency department at the Swan Hills Healthcare Centre is facing a temporary closure, which has just been extended by Alberta Health Services (AHS).
The Swan Hills Healthcare Centre emergency department is now closed overnight for the following time periods:
- 7 p.m., Friday, October 18 – 7 a.m., Saturday, October 19
- 7 p.m., Saturday, October 19 – 7 a.m., Sunday, October 20
Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency.
AHS officials say EMS will remain available to the community and will be re-routed to surrounding healthcare centres as needed to ensure local residents continue to have access to emergency services.
Residents are also reminded to utilize Health Link by calling 811, which is available 24/7, for non-urgent health-related questions.
