Official with the Town of Barrhead are providing some clarification on the neutrality plebiscite following recent media coverage regarding the issue.
Town officials say several residents have interpreted the coverage from Global News to suggest that Barrhead town council has already implemented a neutrality Bylaw. Town officials are reassuring residents that this is NOT the case.
According to the Municipal Government Act, following the submission of a valid petition, the municipality is obligated to draft a bylaw and pass first reading, before either enacting the bylaw or holding a plebiscite.
Officials with the Town of Barrhead say they have opted to let residents vote in a plebiscite and will be announcing the date of the vote in the coming weeks.
