The Whitecourt Wolverines played their final Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Showcase game in Calgary on Thursday, Sept. 26, defeating the Lloydminster Bobcats 3-1.
Dylan Ruptash opened the scoring for the Wolverines at 3:40 with his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Charlie Key and Xavier Lacoste.
At the end of the first period, the Lloydminster Bobcats had outshot the Whitecourt Wolverines 10-8, however, the Wolverines took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Whitecourt’s Tyler Rowland scored the only goal of the second period on a power play at 9:21. Rowland’s first goal of the season was assisted by Charlie Key and Joey Vetrano.
At the end of the second period, both teams had put seven shots on net, but the Wolverines extended their lead to 2-0.
Jalen Bianchet scored the final goal of the game for the Wolverines at 4:02. Braden Keeble and Dwayne Jean Jr. were credited with assisting Bianchet’s fourth goal of the season.
The Bobcats refused to go quietly though as Dylan Deets scored his first goal of the season at 19:09 to spoil the shutout bid for Wolverines’ goaltender Zac Onyskiw. Kaiden Wiltsie picked up the assist on that goal.
Lloydminster Bobcats’ goaltender Anders Miller made 15 saves on 18 shots.
Whitecourt Wolverines’ goaltender Zac Onyskiw made 30 saves on 31 shots in support of the Wolverines’ 3-1 victory.

The Wolverines’ next game starts a four-game home stand with the Drumheller Dragons coming to town on Friday, Oct. 4.
