Shane Getson, MLA for Lac Ste. Anne–Parkland has been invited to the Council of State Governments (CGS) Midwest’s annual leadership program at the Bowhey Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) in Madison, Wisconsin, from Aug. 23-28.
CGS Midwest is a forum that brings together lawmakers and government leaders from 11 states as well as Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan to provide training on building foundational knowledge and establishing relationships that will allow them to guide the next generation of leaders, consensus builders, decision makers and policymakers.
“I am honoured to be offered this exclusive fellowship opportunity to collaborate with, and learn from, innovators in public policy,” says Getson.
“I look forward to building even more connections with the best and brightest in the Midwest – a region that makes up the largest share of Alberta’s trade with the U.S., and one that is key to ensuring Alberta remains the economic and job creation engine of Canada for decades to come.”
This mission comes following an MLA trip to a CSG meeting in Columbus, Ohio earlier this summer. Getson believes BILLD will provide a platform to highlight the importance of Alberta’s trade relationship with the U.S. and promote Alberta’s leadership as a secure, responsible and reliable energy partner.
Alberta has been an associate member of CSG Midwest since 2010.
