Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has put a heavy rainfall warning in place for Yellowhead County, as well as Woodlands County, including the Town of Whitecourt and the Hamlet of Blue Ridge.
Officials say heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected over the next few days, bringing anywhere between 70mm to 100mm of rain depending on the severity of the thunderstorms. The rain is expected to taper off by Saturday morning.
Experts say heavy downpours have the potential to cause water to pool on roads, flash flooding, and localized flooding in low-lying areas. Residents are also being advised to watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
Officials with ECCC say updates will be posted to the weather section of the Government of Canada website as they become available.
