A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Woodlands County, including Whitecourt, Edson, Fox Creek and Swan Hills for Tuesday, June 11.
According to officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), conditions in the afternoon and evening of June 11 will be favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce winds and hail with the potential to cause damage to property and injure people or even lead to the formation of a tornado.
Officials say strong winds can cause damage to buildings, down trees and even blow large vehicles off the road. Experts say lightning kills or injures many Canadians every year and are urging residents to seek shelter during major thunderstorms saying, “Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
