Woodlands County residents are being asked to keep an eye out for invasive wild boar species in the area in an attempt to control the growing population.
Experts say wild boars are highly intelligent and will quickly adapt to being hunted by dispersing, changing movement patterns and becoming nocturnal and will pass these tactics on to the rest of the sounder. As such, residents are being asked not to hunt this invasive species and instead, residents who spot invasive wild boars are being asked to report the sighting by calling 310-FARM, emailing wildboar@gov.ab.ca, or using the EDDmapS app available on Google Play and the App Store.
Officials with Alberta Pork and Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation say since 2018, they have removed 66 sounders for a total of 410 wild boar, with almost 75 per cent coming from Woodlands County.
