Westlock RCMP are in the early stages of an investigation into what appears to be a head-on collision between two vehicles on Highway 2, which resulted in the death of a young girl.
On May 14, Westlock RCMP say they received a call at approximately 8 p.m., of a collision between two vehicles on Highway 2, north of Township Road 602, in Westlock County. According to Mounties, members of the public who arrived at the aftermath of the collision were quick to provide aid, CPR and traffic control while waiting for authorities to arrive. The Westlock RCMP would like to thank them for their assistance and the courage and commitment they showed for their fellow Albertans.
Though the matter is still under investigation, police say preliminary findings suggest a head on collision between both vehicles, though there is no way to ascertain more at this time. Officials say two occupants from each vehicle were transported by ground ambulance or STARS with serious injuries. Mounties say no information is currently available about the three survivors or the status of their surgeries.
Police confirm that a 5-year-old girl, resident of Westlock, died as a result of the collision. Alberta RCMP say their thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased in these difficult times. RCMP ask the public and the media to please allow the loved ones of the young girl to greave.
Police say an update will be provided once more information becomes available.
