An Edson woman has been charged following a series of arson fires in the community over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
On Oct. 8, 2023, at 3:45 p.m., Edson RCMP received a complaint of a fire deliberately set behind a local business on 4 Avenue. Mounties say the fire burned part of the fence.
Then, on Oct. 9 at 6:50 a.m., Edson RCMP received three complaints of arson: a picnic table was set on fire at a business on 3 Avenue, a garbage barrel was set on fire at a business on 4 Avenue and then a public bench was set on fire at the intersection of 50 Street and 1 Avenue.
Police say no injuries were reported at any of the fires.
As a result of the investigation, Edson RCMP, with the assistance of witnesses and surveillance videos, were able to identify the person believed responsible for all four arsons. Police say she was located and arrested immediately without incident.
Jasmine Danielle Desjarlais, 37, a resident of Edson, was charged with four counts of arson. RCMP say Desjarlais was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was released. Her next court appearance will be at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edson on Nov. 7, 2023.
The Edson RCMP is asking the public to contact them if they witnessed any of these incidents or if they have any video recordings of the fires.
