“Over the past few weeks, wildfires and evacuations have impacted almost every corner of the Peace River – Westlock riding. With winds shifting and dry weather continuing, I am deeply concerned for the safety of our communities. The province of Alberta has declared a provincial state of emergency and Albertans who require assistance can call 310-4455 for wildfire related information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As the MP for Peace River – Westlock, I am in contact with and continue to be available to local officials and also receiving daily updates from the federal Minister of Public Safety. I have called
for the assistance from the Canadian Armed Forces and I’m grateful those who are serving right now on the ground across our riding.
I want to also take this opportunity to thank the everyday heroes who are doing their part in the fight. Local farmers who are dropping everything and come to help a neighbor. Communities
coming together to support firefighting efforts and evacuees. When neighbours are in trouble, other neighbours step up and help out and do whatever is needed. This is the Alberta spirit.
I am so proud to see folks opening their homes, organizations, businesses and hearts to those in need, providing meals, hosting pets and livestock, and supporting everyone fighting the fires.
I also want to applaud the wildlife officers who are doing yeoman’s work in managing the wildlife fleeing the fires.
On behalf of our whole riding, I want to recognize the incredible efforts of the fire crews who have been battling these events over the past few weeks. We are grateful for your heroism,
courage, sacrifice, and tireless work to protect lives and save homes.
My heart and prayers go out to all those who have been evacuated, under a wildfire advisory or who have lost property.
Stay safe and be sure to look out for your neighbours.”
Arnold Viersen, MP
Peace River – Westlock
