Local residents looking to go to Schuman Lake for May Long Weekend will have to find another campground.
This is due to Woodlands County temporarily closing the lake, which is about 60 km northeast of Whitecourt, because of wildfires and smoke conditions.
Nikita Ganovicheff, communications assistant for Woodlands County, clarifies the closure for the lake.
“Schuman Lake is still open, the Lake is open, the campground is what’s closed.”
Ganovicheff notes, however, that Groat Creek will be closed as well for the weekend, resulting in a loss of revenue of $600.
A date for reopening the campground is yet to be determined.
