Weyerhaeuser has signed on as the naming sponsor for the northwest entrance and primary lobby of the YCE Multiplex.
Yellowhead County and the Town of Edson announced the multi-year naming rights partnership on Monday, Oct. 26.
“We are thrilled to partner with Weyerhaeuser on this agreement that will provide both Weyerhaeuser and our communities tangible value,” said Yellowhead County Mayor Wade Williams and Town of Edson Mayor Kevin Zahara in a joint statement. “This sponsorship is a great example of what can be achieved when local governments and leading industries in the region collaborate. Weyerhaeuser’s support will directly benefit our residents by keeping our recreational facilities top-tier and accessible to everyone from our youth athletes to our seniors.”
The sponsorship, $10,000 per year for up to 10 years, will support programming, equipment upgrades and facility accessibility, officials explained.
Weyerhaeuser has operated a mill in the Edson community for more than 40 years. Project representatives said the investment reflects the company’s commitment to supporting rural communities where it operates, as well as its core values of citizenship and sustainability.
“Sports and recreation bring communities together and help create shared moments that connect people to their family, friends and neighbours,” said Jennifer Armstrong, Weyerhaeuser mill manager in Edson. “Weyerhaeuser has been a proud supporter of the YCE Multiplex project for years, and we’re looking forward to welcoming the community through its doors for many years to come.”
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration with Weyerhaeuser will occur when the sponsored portion of the building opens in late 2027.
In the meantime, additional naming sponsorship opportunities are available for other areas in the facility.
