The Royal Canadian Legion is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
To commemorate the milestone, legions and theatres across Canada are showing Jake’s Gift, a play about a World War II veteran’s return to Normandy, France, for the 60th anniversary of D-Day and his search for his brother’s grave.
Since 2007, the play has been presented in festivals and theatres in over 265 communities across Canada and internationally. This year also marks 20 years since the first staged reading of the play at the Sunset Theatre in Wells, B.C. It is written and performed by Julia Mackey and directed by Dirk Van Stralen.
Jake’s Gift comes to Whitecourt this Saturday, Oct. 24.
It will be presented at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #44 (4928 51 Avenue) at 7 p.m. The run time is 65 minutes, with no intermission.
Tickets are $40 and available at the legion after 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 22, 23 and 24.
