Edson RCMP members have arrested a resident for theft.
Around 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 15, the detachment responded to a report of a male checking vehicle doors in a parking lot at a business near 2 Avenue in Edson.
Officers say they identified a 25-year-old male Edson resident as the suspect. Police also say he had stolen items in his possession, including a bear deterrent kit.
The RCMP utilized a remotely piloted aircraft system to locate the individual a short distance away. Officers say he attempted to flee on his bicycle, but quickly gave up.
The male was charged with: obstructing a police officer (x2), theft under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, possession of identity documents, failure to comply with his probation order (x4) and possession of a controlled drug.
He was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with a court date of Oct. 16 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Ponoka.
The Edson RCMP reminds community members to keep vehicle doors locked and valuables, such as weapons or items that could be used as weapons, locked away or out of the vehicle.
