While the special weather statement from yesterday is still in effect for most of Alberta, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has also issued a snowfall warning for the Whitecourt, Edson, Fox Creek and Swan Hills regions.
Significant snowfall is expected over west-central Alberta today, Oct. 9, and Saturday.
The weather agency says snowfall amounts will vary widely, ranging from about 7 cm to 25 cm.
As per the warning: communities in protected valleys and lower terrain, such as the townsites of Jasper, Grande Prairie and Valleyview, will see snowfall totals at the lower end of this range. Areas of higher terrain and northeast facing slopes, such as Highway 40 between Grande Prairie and Hinton, will see snowfall amounts at the higher end of this range.
As a result, travel may be challenging and visibility may be reduced at times. Officials also say utility outages are possible.
You can stay up to date on weather alerts and see the full list of impacted areas at the ECCC website.
