ASIRT is investigating a police-involved incident at a hotel in Whitecourt.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) says the incident under investigation took place Sept. 17, 2026, shortly after 11:30 p.m.
That’s when Whitecourt RCMP officers responded to a local hotel for a call about a man who was possibly intoxicated.
“When police arrived, they found a man unconscious in the hallway. Officers found out the 47-year-old man was a long-term resident of the hotel, and gained entry to his suite with help from staff. Police brought the man into the suite, left him alone inside and departed the hotel,” ASIRT notes in a release.
“Within an hour of police leaving, the man’s wife returned to the hotel, found him in medical distress and called 911. Paramedics and firefighters attempted life-saving measures, but he died at the scene.”
ASIRT adds that the information shared represents what they know at this “early stage,” and is what they can share right now while maintaining the integrity of the investigation.
