The latest Barrhead RCMP report indicates that assaults, fraud, break-ins and vehicle thefts increased in the latest quarter, while the same offences trended down in the Whitecourt region.
Between April and June of this year — Q1 for the RCMP — the Barrhead RCMP Detachment recorded 29 assaults, up from 22 during the same period last year.
There was also one robbery and one sexual assault reported, compared to zero and one in 2026, respectively.
The detachment received 18 break-in reports in Q1 this year, up from five in 2025, but down from 23 in 2022.
Motor vehicle thefts also rose from seven in 2025 to 11 this year.
Fraud incidents also increased from seven reports in Q1 of 2025 to 28 reports this year. This was only up five counts compared to 2022, which saw 23 recorded.
On the other hand, reports of thefts under $5,000 fell to 20, down from 25 last year. At the same time, this was an increase of one compared to 2022.
Four counts of possession of stolen goods were reported this year, down from seven in 2025 and 11 in 2022.
Meantime, the Whitecourt RCMP Detachment recorded two assaults in Q1 of 2026, down from 12 last year and 26 in 2022.
Two sexual assaults were reported, consistent with last year. With zero recorded, robbery reports also stayed consistent compared to 2025.
In Q1, the detachment responded to four break-ins, down from 11 last year but up by one compared to 2022.
Motor vehicle theft reports also fell from five in 2022 and three last year to zero this year.
Thefts over and under $5,000, possession of stolen goods and fraud reports also decreased in Q1 of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, from four to zero; 10 to four; 14 to eight; and six to two, respectively.
Woodlands County council received this report for information during its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 10, 2026.
