A Yellowhead County resident has been arrested after allegedly attempting to flee from an incident.
At about 1:25 p.m. on Aug. 31, Swan Hills RCMP received a report of a suspicious ATV from workers at an oil lease site in the Kidney Lake Road area.
The workers said that when they approached the male with the ATV, it became immobilized, and the male fled into the surrounding bush area. The workers provided police with a description of the suspect and the direction he fled.
Once on the scene, officers confirmed that the ATV had been reported stolen from Edson. Police also reportedly found a machete and large bolt cutters with the ATV.
RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) from Whitecourt were deployed to assist with the search for the suspect.
The RCMP says Police Service Dog Nuke located the suspect concealed within the bush. The individual received minor injuries during his interaction with Nuke, police say, and was transported to hospital for treatment. He was then medically cleared and returned to police custody.
Through its investigation, the RCMP located a backpack that contained break-in tools and was allegedly associated with the suspect. Additionally, officers report that the individual was subject to a release order at the time of his arrest, which included conditions to remain inside his residence and a prohibition on possessing weapons.
As a result, a 44-year-old Yellowhead County resident has been arrested and charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Failure to comply with a release order, three counts
He was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody.
The stolen ATV was recovered, and its registered owner was notified.
