According to the latest Crime Severity Index (CSI) report from Statistics Canada, the Barrhead region’s CSI fell by 4.4 per cent in 2025 compared to 2024.
The index measures both the number of crimes compared to population and the relative severity of all police-reported crimes.
Sergeant Colin Hack of Barrhead RCMP presented an update on local crime statistics to county council during its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 1.
In July this year, Statistics Canada released its report: Police-reported crime statistics in Canada, 2025. The report included the CSI values for 2025 as well as revised values for 2024, Sgt. Hack reported.
The Barrhead detachment’s 2025 CSI value was 69.5, down 4.4 per cent compared to the revised 2024 value of 72.7.

Alberta’s overall CSI for 2025 was 90.6, a 6.6 per cent decrease compared to 2024.
Hack’s report says the greatest contributor to the detachment’s CSI was break-ins, which accounted for 20.8 per cent of the CSI.
The largest contributor to the decrease in the CSI from 2024 to 2025 was reportedly a drop in assaults; 73 assaults were reported in 2025, 28 less than in 2024.
