Two Fox Creek residents have been arrested in connection with an alleged armed robbery in Peace River over the weekend.
At about 10:01 p.m. on Aug. 22, Peace River RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting an armed robbery at a business in Peace River.
Police say a male and female suspect entered the store and attempted to leave with unpaid merchandise. When confronted by staff, one of the suspects allegedly produced a machete. The two then left the store and fled in a vehicle at a high rate of speed, officers report.
Attempts were made to stop the vehicle until a tire deflation device was successfully deployed with assistance from Fairview RCMP, Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) and the Real Time Operations Centre (RTOC). Both suspects were then arrested without incident.
As a result, a 21-year-old female has been charged with robbery and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
A 24-year-old male also faces the following charges:
- Robbery
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Assault
Both individuals are residents of Fox Creek.
Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, the female was released on conditions and is scheduled to attend the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River on Sept. 21. The male was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River on Aug. 31.
