Edson town council recently approved a debenture bylaw and budget adjustments for a few ongoing projects.
During its regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 18, councillors passed second and third readings of Debenture Bylaw No. 2340, which authorizes the town to borrow up to $2.5 million for the Civic Centre Relocation project.
Through the project, the town will purchase and renovate a building at 4837 1 Avenue to create a new municipal office space.
Assessments of the current Civic Centre, completed in 2024, found it has a limited service life remaining and needs significant upgrades. The town expects the new building purchase to be more cost-effective than constructing a new municipal facility or renovating the existing one.

During the same meeting, council approved an increase of $55,000 to the 2026 Building Maintenance Operating Budget.
The increase will support the installation of fire separations at the Edson Food Bank facility and address Fire Safety Code compliance requirements.
Funding will be provided from the Capital Municipal Facilities Reserve.
An increase of $36,000 was also approved for the Fortis Underground Power Line Installation project, bringing the total project budget to $851,000 excluding GST.
The additional funding will be drawn from the Energy Reserve.
The installation is occurring within the north ditch of the Highway 16 East corridor between 59 Street and 70 Street.
