One person is in hospital following a police shooting in Fox Creek Wednesday morning.
On Aug. 4, 2026, at 10:15 p.m., Fox Creek RCMP received a call for service for a domestic situation involving a weapon on 5A Street between 7 and 8 Avenue. Mounties say containment was set up and numerous RCMP members responded to the area. Police say the RCMP Critical Incident Program responded which includes the Emergency Response Team and crisis negotiators.
Throughout the night, Mounties say multiple attempts were made to get the male suspect to surrender, however, at 5:18 a.m., there was a confrontation with the suspect which resulted in an officer discharging their service firearm, striking the suspect.
Police say immediate advanced medical care was provided at the scene by responding officers, and the suspect was transported to hospital via STARS air ambulance. No officers were injured during this call.
In compliance with legislative requirements, RCMP say the Police Review Commission CEO was immediately notified who deployed ASIRT to conduct an independent investigation. The RCMP says it believes in accountability and transparency and in so doing, will provide full support to the ASIRT investigators. Mounties add, events like this are difficult for everyone involved.
Independent of ASIRT’s investigation, the RCMP says it’s internal review process has been implemented to gather a full account of what took place during the incident. RCMP training, policy, police response, and the officer’s duty status will be subject to review. The RCMP says it is fully cooperating with ASIRT.
