A few construction projects beginning or continuing in Whitecourt next week may cause traffic impacts.
Starting Aug. 4, the town is continuing intersection upgrades at 52 Avenue and 47 Street, as well as 49 Avenue and 51 Street.
At the 52 Avenue and 47 Street intersection, intermittent lane closures and a 30 km/h speed limit will be in effect starting that day.
Additionally, sidewalk access may occasionally close, and Public Transport Stop #7 will temporarily close. Users of this stop are asked to utilize Stop #8 at 4 Street and 55 Avenue, or Stop #22 at 47 Street and 51 Avenue during the closure.
This work is expected to be complete by Aug. 16, weather dependent.
On Aug. 8, intermittent lane closures and a 30 km/h speed limit will go into effect at the 49 Avenue and 51 Street intersection. This may also cause the sidewalk to close occasionally.
Work at this intersection is expected to continue until Aug. 28, also weather dependent.
The town says the projects are part of a larger effort to improve the accessibility and connectivity of stops along the transit route.
Traffic signal upgrades have already occurred, and officials say these roadway upgrades should improve the safety, flow and functionality of the town’s transportation network.
