After being delayed due to rainfall in June, the Whitecourt Woodlands Rodeo is set to return August 1-2.
It was previously scheduled for June 19-21, but Whitecourt Agricultural Society President Malcolm Heaven says the three to four inches of rain received made the performance grounds a mud bog.
The organization is making up the delay with an action-packed weekend at the beginning of August.
“We want to try and pack as much in there as we can for that weekend, get the whole family involved,” he comments.
Saturday starts with a pancake breakfast from 9:30 a.m. to noon, with donations supporting the local CT scanner fundraiser.
Following breakfast, a vendor market runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additionally, a kids’ zone with inflatables and a scavenger hunt activity will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Rodeo action begins at 2 p.m. with the slack, followed by mutton bustin’ at about 5 p.m. Registration must be completed by 4 p.m. to participate.
The full rodeo performance begins at 6 p.m. and includes a flat race that anyone can participate in.
It all wraps up with an evening family dance from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. (kids allowed until midnight), featuring Funky Monkey DJ and a hot dog eating contest.
Sunday is just as busy, with the vendor market running again for the same hours, and the kids zone from noon to 6 p.m.
This time, mutton bustin’ registers at 2 p.m. and rides at 3 p.m., with the rodeo performance scheduled for 4 p.m.
Another flat race will follow, along with a mini bucker showcase, a 50/50 and other draws and prizes.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for ages seven to 15 and free for kids under six. It all takes place at the Whitecourt Rodeo Grounds, south of town on Highway 32.
