A trial date has been scheduled for a prolific offender who was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant in Mayerthorpe last year.
Daniel Patrick O’Donnell, a 39-year-old Tomahawk resident, is scheduled to stand trial in the Mayerthorpe Court of Justice from Oct. 28-30, 2026.
On Oct. 22, 2025, members of the Alberta RCMP’s Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (WAD CRU) worked with local detachments and the RCMP Air Services unit to remove a prolific property offender from Mayerthorpe.
First, a stolen vehicle believed to be in the suspect’s possession was located in Lac St. Anne County. WAD CRU conducted surveillance with the assistance of a helicopter and drones, then attempted to disable the vehicle using a tire deflation device. The attempt was unsuccessful, and police say the suspect fled.
The Air Services helicopter maintained surveillance in the meantime until the RCMP Real Time Operation Centre could coordinate officers ahead of the suspect’s path to successfully deploy a second tire deflation device. At this point, officers say the suspect abandoned the vehicle and was apprehended while trying to steal another.
As a result of the operation, O’Donnell, who was 38 at the time of his arrest, faces the following charges:
- Robbery with firearm
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Operation while prohibited
- Possession of weapons contrary to order x2
- Possession of weapons for dangerous purposes x4
- Resisting a police officer
- Break and enter of a residence
- Theft under $5,000
- Fraudulent concealment
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
