Peace River—Westlock MP Arnold Viersen says he strongly supports Alberta’s dual pipeline proposals to British Columbia and Ontario, which should create jobs, investments and energy security.
Earlier this month, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith pitched a bitumen pipeline to the B.C. coast, just hours after Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a deal with B.C. that could make it possible.
Shortly after, Smith and Ontario Premier Doug Ford proposed a route for a proposed west-east oil pipeline stretching from Hardisty, Alta., to refineries in Sarnia, Ont., without crossing the U.S. border.

Viersen released a statement following the announcements, saying, “I want to thank Premier Danielle Smith for fighting for Alberta and getting us this far. She has brought not only one, but two pipeline proposals to the table for Albertans.”
He adds that while Conservatives have been calling for pipelines for more than a decade, it is not Viersen’s preference to have public funds back the proposed projects. He also says Pierre Poilievre has called on the Prime Minister to end the West Coast tanker ban.
