The Town of Barrhead is reminding residents there is no public access to the Water Treatment Plant access road and adjacent walking trail.
The town says the area has been closed since July 2025 due to a collapsed culvert, but a recent additional ground collapse has exposed a critical utility line.
The town says residents are not to enter the area for any reason under any circumstances, as entry poses safety risks to individuals and could now also damage critical utility infrastructure.
Officials say road and culvert repairs near waterways follow federal Fisheries Act regulations, which restrict in-water construction during specific seasonal windows to protect fish habitats, impacting repair timelines.
In the meantime, the town says it is installing high-visibility warning signage and coordinating with regulators and utility providers to resolve the hazard and resume repairs as quickly as possible.
