Beginning this week, Edson enforcement officers will be equipped with body-worn cameras (BWC) while working in the community.
The town says the cameras support its commitment to public safety by providing an objective record of interactions between officers and the public.
These cameras are not always recording: they are activated by the officer during enforcement-related incidents or interactions.
Town officials say requests for access to BWC footage related to municipal bylaw enforcement, administrative matters, or formal complaints will be handled in accordance with the Access to Information Act, the Protection of Privacy Act and the town’s applicable policies and procedures.
If BWC footage becomes part of an active investigation or prosecution related to a provincial offence, officials say access may be provided through the provincial court disclosure process.
Residents may see enforcement officers wearing BWCs as early as the week of June 22-28.
Concerns or questions related to these cameras can be directed to Enforcement Services via email (enforcement@edson.ca) or phone (825-605-5432).
