Shandy’s Dream for a Cure Barbecue Fundraiser, a special memorial event, takes place this Saturday, June 20, in Edson.
In 2015, residents Barbie Brown and Rob Reichenbacher lost their 11-year-old daughter, Shandy, to brain cancer. For the last 10 years, every June, the town of Edson has come together to keep Shandy’s dream of finding a cure for brain cancer alive through a community fundraiser.
This year’s fundraising goal is $15,000, and so far, $8,129.96 has been raised. In 2025, the event raised $7,448.46 and over the last decade, it has raised over $135,000 to support pediatric brain cancer research.
The event runs from 12-4 p.m. at the RCMP Centennial Park and will feature a memorial walk and a butterfly release.
There will also be a fundraising barbecue, with all proceeds from the event going to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
Donations can be made online as well.
