The Town of Whitecourt is hosting a public information session ahead of a planned public hearing regarding potential rezoning on Caxton Street.
The town says Soaring Eagle Support Society has applied to rezone 3515 Caxton Street from a Hilltop Commercial (C-7) zone. This change would allow it to continue providing support for individuals who are homeless or face challenges securing housing through structured supportive housing.
A public information session to discuss the application and how residents can participate in a public hearing on the matter is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. on June 23 in the Forest Interpretive Centre.
In April, the town was notified that the original use of the Soaring Eagle Support Society property had changed, meaning it was no longer in compliance with its zoning. Options to address non-compliance were outlined by the town, and the organization opted to pursue a rezoning application.
The public hearing for the application is scheduled for July 20 at 4 p.m.
