June 1-6 is Seniors’ Week in Whitecourt, and there are plenty of activities happening around town.
From 1-3 p.m. today, the Whitecourt Seniors Circle is hosting tabletop curling. The activity is free for seniors over 60-years-old, and registration is not required.
Tomorrow, June 2, it’s time to “Tour the Town.” A bus will depart from the Allan and Jean Millar Centre at 9:30 a.m. to show residents everything Whitecourt has to offer. Space is limited, so registration is required.
Then, at 5 p.m., the Seniors Circle will host bingo. The cost to participate varies, but registration is not required.
On June 3, two events take place at the Seniors Circle:
- 9:30 a.m.: Smartphone Fundamentals (registration required)
- 2-3 p.m.: Resource Trade Fair
Then on Thursday, June 4, the facility will host a Gallop and Gather Derby from 1:30-3 p.m., which costs $3 to attend.
Two more free events take place on Friday: a nature walk at 9:30 a.m. and an intergenerational Lego cart race at 1 p.m.
Registration is required to join the nature walk, which begins at Carson-Pegasus Provincial Park. Afterwards, the cart races get underway at the Seniors Circle, with no registration needed.
The week wraps up with a cornhole tournament and a dinner and dance on Saturday. Both events take place at the Whitecourt Seniors Circle.
The tournament will run from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in partnership with the Whitecourt Cornhole League.
Doors for the evening event open at 5:15 p.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m. and a show at 7 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Bromantics.
The dinner and dance costs $10 for seniors over 60-years-old and $30 for those aged 18-59.
