The Whitecourt RCMP will be conducting targeted enforcement over Victoria Day long weekend in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the road.
The enforcement also aligns with National Impaired Driving Prevention Enforcement Day on May 16.
The detachment reminds local travellers of the following safety tips for this weekend:
- Don’t drive impaired: Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol impairs your judgment and reaction time. Impaired driving is criminal and dangerous.
- Don’t drive fatigued: Getting behind the wheel when tired limits your ability to pay attention to the road and slows your reaction times.
- Don’t drive distracted: Texting, calling or handling devices while driving can result in motor vehicle collisions. Pre-set your hands-free device, GPS, radio or music and do not adjust unless your vehicle is pulled over and safely stopped.
- Drive responsibly: Don’t drive aggressively or take unnecessary risks. Drive the speed limit and follow the rules of the road.
- Buckle up: Ensure all vehicle occupants are properly restrained using seat belts or child car seats.
Whitecourt RCMP says it is proud to participate in this year’s Canada Road Safety Week campaign.
